American Indian artists create sterling silver earrings in a wide variety of styles.  The styles range from plain sterling silver earrings to earrings covered with turquoise, coral and other stones.  Although the practice of piercing earlobes for earrings goes back to ancient times, most of the earlier American Indian earrings were screwbacks or, occasionally, clips.  During the 1960’s and 1970’s, earrings for pierced ears became most popular.
