Description
- A wonderful old dead pawn Navajo sterling silver concho belt with a rectangular sandcast buckle and conchos set with turquoise.
- The buckle measures 3-1/2 inches long by 2-1/8 inches high, and each oval concho measures 3 inches long by 2-3/8 inches high. Each concho is set with 3 pieces of turquoise, mostly oval but a few round. The turquoise is deep blue, mostly with smoky, pitted matrix; one or two pieces have coppery matrix and may be replacements.
- There is deep traditional style engraving around the turquoise and around the edges of each concho. In the traditional style, each concho has a copper loop soldered to the back allowing the concha to be strung on belt leather.
- The heavy silver buckle has no turquoise and is done in a traditional sandcast design. It is probably a replacement, perhaps from when the original buckle was pawned separately from the belt.
- The black leather belt is 39 inches long and 1-5/8 inches wide. There are no markings on either the buckle or the conchas. They test as sterling silver. The leather belt is marked "Navajo Shopping Center Gamerco New Mexico". Apart from some tarnish and a bit of normal wear to the leather, this great old concho belt is in excellent condition.
