Description
- This is a spectacular heirloom Navajo sterling silver concho belt with inlay. It features a rectangular buckle and 9 rectangular conchos, each depicting a different scene from Navajo life in high-quality inlay. The stones used include turquoise, mother of pearl, coral, jet, and brown shell. The shiny silver buckle and conchos are also hand stamped with cloud designs, designs indicating patches of foliage, and scallop stamping around the edges.
- The buckle and each concho measure 3-1/8” long by 2-1/4” high. Each concho has copper loops soldered to the back of the concho allowing the concho to be strung on belt leather. This belt has two loops per concho to assure they remain properly aligned on the belt.
- The beautiful scenes presented include riding on horseback; grinding grain; a hogan; a horsedrawn wagon; rounding up sheep; and a rug weaver.
- The black leather belt measures 43-3/4” by 1-1/2” wide.
- This concho belt is marked sterling silver and is signed BB. This is the hallmark of Benjamin Becenti, a member of the legendary Navajo Becenti family, particularly noted for his inlay work, and named in Wright’s Hallmarks of the Southwest. This Navajo sterling silver concho belt is also marked with the number #591803.
- This wonderful Navajo sterling silver concho belt is in excellent condition.
